As Henise considers all contest participants win- ners, the remaining entries each received an honorable mention ribbon. All contes- tants received gingerbread cookies baked by Henise herself. This year's contest judges were Chester High School teacher Celeste Higby, Plumas Bank employee Shauna Varner and Elks secretary Dave Henise. As to the quality and imagi- nation of entries, judge Dave Henise said, "From a judging standpoint it was very difficult -- we just have a very creative community." Creative was definitely the right word when it came to the entries. Houses were made from graham crackers, ginger- bread and sugar cookie dough. Most houses had a fair dose of frosting icicles, a variety of candy trimmings, pretzel and gum drop fences. There were frosted roofs, frosting lakes and even brown sugar walkways. A real eye catcher for the judges and guests alike were the stained glass windows in one of the Westwood house entries. Familiar with the group, Varner said the win- dows were made from oveI1 baked Jolly Rancher candies. First place winners First place in the adult category went to Camilla Klimek for her house creation that included a full- sized front porch, shredded wheat shingles and wafer shingling. Josh Klimek took first place in the preschool through kindergarten category with his graham cracker house and coconut snow. Chester High School fresh- men Sara Gannon and Ashley Clarke baked up a first-place win in the open group category by using both graham crackers and homemade gingerbread on two structures. First place in the family grouping went to a tie with blue ribbons being given to both the Ricci and the Strand families for their outstanding entries. The Strand entry contained multiple dwellings and a blue frosted pond. The Ricci family entry gave See Contest, page 9B
