Kate West Staff Writer chesternews@plumasnews.com New to the summer events lineup, Chester Auto Parts will present its inaugural Show and Shine Car Show on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be hosted on both sides of Main Street at the Chester Auto Parts NAPA store and on the Collins Pine lawn. "This car show is open to all categories of vehicles, Model T's to 2014 models, and motorcycles are welcome!" event coordinator Sarah Young said. She also said because of the open format, there would not be any judging by category of vehicles. "The cost to register is only $15 for pre-registration and $20 the day of because it's a show and shine and we aren't giving a lot of prizes or promising a lot; this is all about supporting our local children in need," she said. The designated charity for this event is Log-a-Load for Kids. For more information about this national charity contact Lisa Medici by calling 256-3633 or emailing lisa@medici logging.com. "Of every penny we get, 100 percent will go to the charity. Any out-of-pocket expenses, such as the cost for the disc jockey, are being paid by for by Chester Auto Parts," Young added. As a side event to the car show, Chester Auto Parts will also be hosting its annual tool and filter sale, a seven-day event that will begin June 26. Buzz Barrett Sound Productions will keep the tunes rocking and PR's Grub will provide a variety of lunch foods. Those interested should call 258-3151 or stop by the store at 445 Main St. to pick up a registration form. Relay for Life une 2 For the 16th year, Plumas County residents are stepping up to raise money for the fight against cancer. Purple balloons scattered around the county signify this year's Kickin' Cancer Relay for Life event. Relay for Life is a family-oriented team event in which participants walk relay-style around the track at Feather River College and take part in fun activities off the track. Teams include co-workers, club members, families and friends, who walk to raise money that the American Cancer Society uses for research and assistance programs for individuals and families affected by cancer. Relay for Life is a unique opportunity for community members to come together to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember those whom they have lost and fight back against the disease. The public is invited and encouraged to support the event. Themed laps, family fun activities, live music and demonstrations will run throughout the 24-hour event. Opening ceremonies begin Saturday, June 21 at 9 a.m. Guest speakers, tributes and heartfelt stories precede the introduction of teams and the beginning of the relay. The Luminaria Ceremony starts at 9 p.m., when glowing bags, decorated in honor of people who have lost the battle, as well as supporting those who have won their battle or are continuing to fight, line the track. Luminaria bags can be purchased now or on the day of the event by contacting event chairwoman Vicki Poh, 927-9917, vicki@eastquincycsd.com, or Jennifer Merrill, 927-9139, jamer78@sbcglobal.net.
