6'A Wednesday, March 12, 2014 Chester Progressive, Westwood PinePress Young wrestlers compete in Sparks M. Kate West Staff Writer Chester Youth Wrestling members traveled to Sparks, Nev., on March 1 - 2 to participate in the annual Ironman Tournament. The two-day tournament consists of three different wrestling styles: freestyle, Greco-Roman and folk style. Participants don't have to wrestle all three styles but instead choose which styles to wrestle. Talon Pleau, Callum Kremer, and Trenton Longacre chose to wrestle all three styles. Both Pleau and Kremer took first place in all three styles. "Talon wrestled tough as usual but showed more control and technique, which is something we've been working on," Coach Kremer said. "CaUum's dedication to working hard in the practice room really showed at this tournament as he was commanding control of every match," Coach Pleau added. Trenton Longacre had a tough road this weekend as he was in a bracket of older, more experienced youths. He came out strong and never gave up but fell short of placing. Parker Montgomery, Bonner Montgomery, Justin Contreras and Colton Dreith were among the youth wrestlers who chose to participate in the folk style competition of the Ironman Tournament. Parker went up against some stiff competition, falling short in a couple matches by only one or two points. He battled hard and walked away with fifth place seating. "Colton showed great heart and sportsmanship and never gave up while wrestling some excellent competitors. He ended up placing sixth in his weight class. "Justin wrestled with poise and agility as he dealt with some questionable officiating. He kept his composure and placed fifth," Kremer said. Bonner placed second after wrestling in an epic match for true second. The match went into overtime where Bonner made some great shots and ended up with the first takedown for the win. "Bonner did a great job of keeping calm and still being the aggressor in overtime," Kremer added. The Chester Youth Wrestlers will travel to Loomis for the Tournament' of Champions on March 15.
